maureen stover
12:23
Hi Amy, my suggestion on the quiz is modify if now so you have names for the rest of students and ask the students who do not turn something in if they are one of the no names…remember to give yourself grace!
maureen stover
13:17
Hi Tony! Session 1 will be archived and available to view as a recording
susan
13:23
I have had trouble with a discussion board. students can see the work but when they click reply no box becomes active. I clicked the box that says allow students to comment on student work
Tonya Smith
13:26
Welcome back David!
Julie Grindstaff
13:54
If you make a copy of an assignment for each student, does "Turn It In" have a similar functionality to "Mark as Done"
maureen stover
13:55
Hi MPINILLA, no, when you assign a quiz, each student will automatically get a copy
Ayisha Lewis
14:32
Hello Thisis Ayisha Lewis Guilford prep. Greensboro NC
joycethorpe
14:38
HI
Tonya Smith
14:40
They can still turn it in.
Ayisha Lewis
14:41
I made it Whew!
Tara Owens
14:47
When I see an assignment as "turned in" does that mean the student marked it as done? Can they still edit it even though it shows being turned in?
Tonya Smith
15:11
They are not able to edit it once submitted.
maureen stover
15:23
Amy, open the quiz in your drive any changes you make will be automatically saved
maureen stover
15:54
Yes, Tara. When it says turned in, that mean the student has completed the assignment
maureen stover
16:42
Hi Michael, It will say “Mark as Done” for students to turn in an assignment
Tara Owens
16:42
Thanks, Maureen!
Naara
16:55
I had some trouble getting back in; I guess computer is tired and didn't want to cooperate!
Tonya Smith
17:09
When turning in, they click Submit, Mark as done and confirm.
Geetanjali Soni
17:22
Yes…mics are off
Tonya Smith
17:34
All mics are muted. We're happay to try to answer questions in chat!
Tonya Smith
17:38
Happy
April Cooper
17:55
The Link for the archived recording of this presentation will be available in a few days: https://ncvps.org/digital-transition/
Tonya Smith
18:18
Yes. Click the edit assignment option and go from there.
maureen stover
18:18
Hi Tonya, it depends on how you set up the quiz. Once a student turns in an assignment, they cannot change it be the teacher becomes the owner. Once a teacher returns the assignment, the student can make changes
Stephanie Davis
18:26
tsk tsk Maggie and Tonya! Slacking :)
Maggie Murphy
18:37
HAHA - Doug is so funny!
Tonya Smith
18:47
Thank you for pointing that out Maureen!
Ellen Weaver
18:52
My students are turning in the work, I grade it and return it. If I return it without a grade, they can redo it correct? Some of them turned it in without doing anything.
Tonya Smith
19:21
They may have not submitted the assignment correctly if you can't see anything on the document.
maureen stover
19:31
Hi Brooke, you can modify an assignment by clicking on the three vertical dots and selecting edit
Brooke Morawski
19:57
Will it do it for all classes or just that one class? (I have four classes right now)
Tonya Smith
20:20
I have had to walk my students through the submitting assignments task several times. Most students remember the steps, but for some it takes a bit longer.
Ellen Weaver
20:41
I gave them each a copy of a document, and they submitted a blank copy...I could see my questions, but their answers were not there.
maureen stover
20:51
There will be a lot of scaffolding to help your students navigate the system
Amanda
21:03
does that function work with google slides - that each student has its own copy?
Ellen Weaver
21:09
I have no idea what they see...I didn't use this before THE CHANGE...
maureen stover
21:41
Hi Brooke, you can initially assign things to all four classes, but if you make edits, you need to make the edit in each individual class
Ayisha Lewis
21:46
can you pull assignments to a grade book or google form to collect grades
Tara Owens
21:49
Amanda, I have been using slides for assignments, and it does let me make each student a copy.
Brooke Morawski
21:49
Thank you!
Laura
22:02
Can you show again how you give each student their own copy of a worksheeet or quiz?
April Cooper
22:10
Hi @Amanda, yes you can make a “copy” with Google Slides as well.
Tonya Smith
22:23
Also, if the student adds a private comment to the teacher after completing an assignment, they can click post to alert that the assignment is ready. They will click "mark as done" and confirm. It then changes to "turned in."
maureen stover
22:41
Laurel, your students need to log in using their school email account to access any of the attachments in google classroom
Julie Grindstaff
22:48
When you use Slides for assignments, make sure it is being placed as an "assignment" not as a material. Slides will sometimes default to a material.
margaretcleary
23:07
where is draft mode?
maureen stover
23:24
Micheal, it does show them the grade when you return
milagros carbonera
23:36
Is it necessarily that the links I use should be in materials tab
Julie Grindstaff
23:41
Yes returned shows the grade
Ayisha Lewis
24:04
Good job though!!
Tara Owens
24:26
Julie, great point!
maureen stover
24:31
Julian, select individual responses from the option across the top of the quiz and it will tell you the grade the student earned
milagros carbonera
24:57
I do everything on the classwork tab with the word create
Tonya Smith
24:57
I'm using the private comment box for feedback as well. The students love the feedback and often comment back.
728 637 704
25:04
do we still need to return the assignment to the student if we are only giing feedback
joycethorpe
25:26
Where or how do I get to the version for assignments turned in?
Julie Grindstaff
25:44
I make comments as they are working, using the "make a copy" which allows me to work with them (conference style) regularly.
Tonya Smith
25:58
You don't have to return the assignment.
Amanda
26:12
@728637704 , yes, I'm pretty sure comments are not shown to students until you hit "return"
Dale White
26:14
Does the grade go to parents as well if they have been invited and accepted?
Bosch Family
26:19
You can also have a comment bank
April Cooper
26:23
FYI, the link for the archived recording of this presentation will be available in a few days: https://ncvps.org/digital-transition/
Betsy Román
27:25
Does the email go back only to the student - can you add the parents. Can they also be notified about the assignments?
Angie
27:34
Do parents automatically get weekly summaries from my google classroom?
Tonya Smith
28:08
You can add parents by inviting them to the class.
Ayisha Lewis
29:04
sound going in and out
Tonya Smith
29:11
You may add a link to an assignment. There is an option under the create assignment tab.
maureen stover
29:11
Cathryn, if you put in a due date, you cannot schedule them at the same time. If you do not put in a due date, you can schedule
Tonya Smith
29:42
Unfortunately, there isn't a feature that allows parents to check student grades or averages.
Tonya Smith
30:11
They will see your private message even if the work isn't graded.
maureen stover
30:35
Angella, in my opinion, no. I think inviting parents helps them engage with their kids’ assignments
Tonya Smith
30:45
They will be going over Topics organization.
Rebekah Wrye
31:04
Is there a way to hide topics/assignments after the unit is complete? I don't want to delete it- just make it invisible to students after that unit is over.
Melissa
31:12
If I assign a Google slide show in Google classroom with links to Google docs to complete work and set it to make a copy for each student, will it also make a copy of the Google doc for each or will they all be working on the same page?
maureen stover
32:07
Melissa, as long as you make a copy for each student, they will all get an individual copy.
728 637 704
32:10
so you are organizing by topic but not assigning the topic until they are old do that only the new assignments are at the top? is that right?
maureen stover
32:29
It’s almost like you have handed them each a copy of a paper at their seats :)
joycethorpe
32:32
I worked with a student via the phone and on her screen today, I really like doing that , can I work with multiple students this way
Sheri
32:50
Initially, I created assignments within GC and was using the Quiz feature and this one requires the teacher typing in the answer. Unfortunately, it is case sensitive and can be time-consuming to create this type. So, the ITF at school suggested that I just "add" Google Drive/link/etc. Then, I just grade the student work by accessing the GSheet. Are there ways around the case-sensitive issue?
Tonya Smith
33:12
Joyce, are you asking about Google meets and the share screen feature?
maureen stover
33:41
Yes, Sheri. I usually use the manual review instead of auto grade in case students spell something wrong or do not capitalize something
April Cooper
33:43
FYI, the link for the archived recording of this presentation will be available in a few days: https://ncvps.org/digital-transition/
maureen stover
34:24
Yes, Inmaculada you can use an option called Originality reports to see if students are copying answers
Sheri
34:25
Thanks, Maureen!
Betty
34:46
Once the topics are set you can just drag the new assignments instead of using the dots and edit feature.
Rebekah Wrye
34:51
I really want to see *exactly* what the parents see when they receive the reports (or whatever it is)
valorie_chasten
34:59
If you create an quiz in google classroom, ???
maureen stover
35:33
Hi Angella, the parent gets an email that invites them to join and then they get summary reports to let them know what their student did that day or week
joycethorpe
35:34
No I opened class work on my side and she opened her assignment and I was able to show her how to write something and then she wrote on the doc and I could see it.
Maria Meadows
36:13
Can we do voice recording or videos in google classroom, like me teaching a topic?
Victor Navas
36:39
You can use Screencastify to do that.
Victor Navas
36:47
it is an add-on
valorie_chasten
37:06
Thanks for All sharing, it is helping
Machelle
37:08
Maria Meadows, I've used Screencastomatic, upload to YouTube, provide the link....option if you want
Yadira Rodriguez
37:42
I did a video on google drive and uploaded to google classroom.
Amanda
37:57
Loom is good with google classroom too
maureen stover
38:11
Hi Margaret, you can assign the slides to the students in that group an give them each editing privilege (this is different than making a copy for each student)
Michelle Manis
38:17
Screencastify is great
Angela Battle
38:42
I really like Screencastify!
maureen stover
38:56
PWoolard, if you record Google Meet, it will also automatically save to your drive
728 637 704
39:16
are we supposed to be looking at this assignment? we just see the stream
Ellen Weaver
39:24
I've used Loom too. And if you are playing a video or example using Loom it will record what the video is saying and still record your voice at the same time.
728 637 704
39:30
classwork titles
maureen stover
40:18
@728637704 Right now you just see the stream of classwork
GlorimLopez Pallango
40:21
@Victor, screencastify helps with walking students through their assignment, I really like it too.
Victor Navas
40:45
It is awesome!
maureen stover
41:01
Herlinda, you can use the version history an highlight the specific passage that was copied
April Cooper
41:17
If you have your hand raised, please take a moment to drop your question in the chat. Thanks!
Geetanjali Soni
41:31
If you have your hands raised because you have a question, please type into the chat
maureen stover
41:32
No Sandra, the other students cannot see who is or is not included on assignment
valorie_chasten
41:50
Thanks for the comments from teachers, this is a Big Help
joycethorpe
42:04
I tried to do screen castify and was super lost
maureen stover
42:13
You are welcome, Valorie! :)
Jan Leiner
42:48
I did a lesson using QuickTime. Can show desktop and voice over as I’m working.
valorie_chasten
43:01
Can I email All parents at once?
Angela Battle
43:03
That is how we have done it.
maureen stover
43:06
It may be something that your district need to enable. You can check with your local tech folks
Ayisha Lewis
43:12
im still a little lost but I ll go back to the recording
maureen stover
43:24
Yes, you can email all the parents at once
Betty
43:26
Loom pro version is free to educators forever now! There are lots of help videos our there too.
Michelle Manis
43:33
If an assignment is given to a group, could it then be completed as a group project?
Marian Congdon
43:38
I don’t have the guardian option. It’s just blank next to my students. Any idea how to “turn that on”?
Ayisha Lewis
43:52
that last tip for parent notifications was helpful
Angela Battle
44:13
Some students will not give parent code.
Deanna A.
44:28
It is illegal for a parent to be in a students google classroom
maureen stover
44:31
Yes, Michelle. You can assign the assignment to different groups of kids. Then reuse the assignment to assign to a different group
joycethorpe
44:32
How do I find the version history that was mentioned earlier?
Ellen Weaver
44:36
Loom will upgrade you to a Pro account for free after they verify you are a teacher. I didn't have to request it. I had options to share just the window I was on, or share the desktop, which let me switch from window to window. It also lets you show yourself in a little video circle while you are recording...or you can turn that circle off.
pwoolard
45:02
Joycethorpe, don't give up on it. It is wonderful. Maureen said that Meet would record also and saves to Drive.
maureen stover
45:05
Deanna, only students email address can be added as students
GlorimLopez Pallango
45:08
thank you Ellen!
Amanda
45:15
And Loom defaults to save on your google drive
Ingrid Leon
45:20
I have a question
Jan Leiner
45:21
when students are in google classroom from the same domain, you can email guardians individually or as a group
maureen stover
45:27
Amanda, the students need to click turn in
Ingrid Leon
45:54
I have been trying to add a person who is neither a teacher nor parent to GC
April Cooper
46:08
FYI, the link for the archived recording of this presentation will be available in a few days: https://ncvps.org/digital-transition/
Tonya Smith
46:12
You click the box next to the names that are in the classroom and send the email as a group in that manner.
Ingrid Leon
46:51
I've tried sending him invitations in the teachers' category, he gets invitation, but when he clicks to accept it comes back saying the code is incorrect
valorie_chasten
47:12
Please Help me with emailing All parents in that class at once
Ellen Weaver
47:33
Your welcome
milagros carbonera
47:39
I post you tube videos and students enjoy watching
Ayisha Lewis
47:43
that will share indv with everyone where they can edit indv
728 637 704
47:59

Was that educreation? Not sure if I heard right
Ellen Weaver
48:26
I've used educreations too.
Betsy Román
48:44
Crazy Question: Is google classroom like Canvas or are they totally different? My district will be changing to Canvas starting stages next year.
Ellen Weaver
48:50
You can add pictures and things to educreations too.
Michelle Manis
49:00
we can not see that doc
maureen stover
49:01
Ingrid, teachers can only be added if they are in the same LEA as you. Otherwise, adults need to be added as a parent/guardian
Ayisha Lewis
49:07
its not showing on my screen

53:48
What type of tablet is best for educreations?
728 637 704
53:58
I used this program when I taught elementary. the students love it but they all had Ipads
maureen stover
54:04
You can do similar functions in Meet. This is another option of some of the extensions
Ayisha Lewis
54:07
that's nice
Ellen Weaver
54:17
I liked the fact that they realized I was a teacher and upgraded me automatically. I also like educreations when I need to use the whiteboard feature
Maria del Pilar Ramirez Lemus
54:19
Is educreation an extension too?
Jan Leiner
54:26
Could I share a screen shot with you?
valorie_chasten
54:29
