My understanding is that the traditional school superintendents had a “heads up” before SB220. Is there ANY way that we could have a charter representative added to those notifications so that information could be share with our community?
Susan Hogan
54:55
This is Susan Hogan from Wilmington School of the Arts. I will have to jump off the call at 12:30 as we are all dismissing early due to weather in this part of the state.
Eugene Slocum
55:30
The questions is since K-5 can go on A schedule can the buses have more than 20-24 on the bus?
Shawn Williams
56:17
So charter schools must go to Plan A and Plan C, there is no longer a Plan B option and we no longer worry about social distancing?
Buffy Fowler
56:35
The letter sent to charter leaders from Catherine Truitt telling us twice that she will not allow anyone break the law shows how much she trust charters.
Stephen Gay
59:25
Do we have any flexibility in the K-5 grouping if we actually group ours as k-4 and 5-8?
Natalie Oransky
59:59
Is Plan A required for K-5? Or is there a choice?
Deb Brown
01:01:06
Could you please point us to the policy or legislation that now REQUIRES plan A for k-5? The toolkit still says B or A is acceptable.
Derrick D. Jordan
01:01:30
Two of our residential schools are already operating under Plan A. The 3rd will begin Sunday.
Camela Ford
01:01:52
Can you provide the legislation policy that now requires charter schools to require Plan A for K-5?
Derrick D. Jordan
01:01:56
Thanks, Superintendent Truitt and Dr. Stegall!
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:02:06
The LTWF guidebook has the SBE policy embedded into it - it was updated the evening the SBE approved it.
Natalie Oransky
01:02:19
I have parents who want their students in school for only 2 days even though we are allowing for 4 days (K-5)
Amanda Pabian
01:02:20
Under Plan A are parents permitted to opt for online learning? Also, under Plan A are charters able to attend in-person 4 days per week and have one day as remote learning?
Susan Hogan
01:02:30
I thought we can be Plan A and also offer our virtual academy as well just like New Hanover County Schools which is the public LEA we pull the majority of our students are drawn from?
Bruce Friend
01:03:03
We are charter leaders (not traditional public schools) and the letter we received on 3/16/21 which was specific to charter schools stated that we CANNOT move grades 6-12 to Plan A. Now you are saying we have to submit a waiver NOT to go to Plan A?
Barbara Cohen
01:03:56
It would be beneficial to K-12 charter schools to have the option to reopen fully under Plan A. As a K-12 school we need this option.
Leslie Paynter
01:04:00
What if we were returning to Plan A, but on April 19, instead of April 12 based on getting everything organized and ordering & receiving additional PPE. So, is there any flexibility about the 21 days since we have far fewer staff for reorganizing, etc.?
Jim Duffey
01:04:47
Are we still required to provide a virtual option k-5?
Eugene Slocum
01:05:14
bus transportation?
Ms. Jones
01:05:54
For clarity, grades 6-12 (charter schools) must remain under Plan B until the legislation passes, stating otherwise....Am I correct?
Jackie T. Hughes
01:06:18
Can you clarify how many hours of instruction per day constitute Plan A?
Joy Warner
01:06:30
Any sense of timing for this newest legislation?
Barbara Cohen
01:06:35
Where can we find information on the ABC Collaborative for our own information?
Shawn Williams
01:06:56
Can someone drop the link that has the current legislation for us to move to plan A. And are we allowed to do a 4 day week and 1 day for cleaning?
Rebecca Planchard
01:07:26
https://abcsciencecollaborative.org/
Amanda Highfil
01:07:46
under Plan A are charters able to attend in-person 4 days per week and have one day as remote learning?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:07:49
@Shawn - yes - per SBE policy in the LTWF Guidebook, Plan A can be 4 days with one day for cleaning.
Keisha White
01:07:52
Clarification - If a charter school is in Plan C, do they need to be in Plan B?
Geoff Coltrane

Ms. Jones
01:08:03
For K-5 under Plan A, can we keep 1 remote learning day in the week for cleaning/disinfecting?
angela dawson
01:08:17
What is the required date to return? I am hearing different dates.
Ellen Girardi
01:08:42
Is there an update on H.B. 324?
Keisha White
01:08:46
Grades 6-12
Shawn Williams
01:08:46
@sneha-shah-coltrane Thank you. I am trying to find the LTWF Guidebook - please.
Bruce Friend
01:09:08
My K-5 students have been on Plan A since January and yes, we do one remote learning day a year - partially for cleaning purposes.
CE-Sheri Regan
01:09:20
Yes, please clarify the start date for K-5.
Ms. Jones
01:09:36
Thanks Bruce
Bruce Friend
01:09:39
sorry, one remote learning day a week is what we do with our K-5 Plan A students and our Plan B 6-8 students.
Dr. Chaunte Garrett
01:09:51
Is Plan B still 50% capacity?
Jessica Swencki
01:10:13

Here's the LTWF Guidebook. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z5Mp2XzOOPkBYN4YvROz4YOyNIF2UoWq9EZfrjvN4x8/edit?usp=sharing
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:10:25
The SBE policy is clear in the document.
Jackie T. Hughes
01:10:55
Can you clarify whether Plan A requires full days of instruction or would 1/2 days be accepted?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:10:59
Plan B is not 50%; it is about distancing and what you can do in your building. Must maintain 6 feet distancing.
Jim Montague
01:11:11
For K-5 under Plan A, can we keep 1 remote learning day in the week for cleaning/disinfecting?
Barbara Cohen
01:11:12
If we have been operating under Plan A for K-5 already do we need to do anything different?
Jim Duffey
01:11:32
will we be required to provide a virtual option next year?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:11:33
@Barbara - correct -- all good if you are already doing Plan A.
Jim Montague
01:11:43
I saw the answer above that we can do 4 days and 1 for deep cleaning
David Stegall
01:11:46
Yes, full days
Charlie French
01:11:48
Any change in the social distance rules on the bus?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:11:54
ALL: Yes 4 days is acceptable by SBE policy.
Shawn Williams
01:12:04
Thank you
Ellen Girardi
01:12:23
Any update on H.B. 324?
Bruce Friend
01:12:26
All year we have been ahead of our local traditional public schools. We have been open K-8 on Plan B since the start of the year and K-5 on Plan A since January. Now after being a leading example in the state of how to navigate this pandemic with student in the building I actually have less flexibility that the local public school down the road from me. They can put 6-8 students on Plan A, and I cannot.
James Kornegay
01:12:33
Sneha: is there clarification on the number of hours? Can schools do modified days to help address crowing on playgrounds, lunch, etc.
Jackie T. Hughes
01:12:49
Thank you for clarifying.
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:12:51
Nothing has changed for school bus... Plan A can have more than one; Plan B cannot.
Natalie Oransky
01:13:01
Any idea when we will know about 6-12? And would that start on April 12 as well?
Denise Kent
01:13:17
Let’s get Charters covered to open K-12 under Plan A- our staff, students and parents were ready to open K-12Plan A, yesterdays let upset a lot of parents.
James Kornegay
01:13:19
When is the expected date to implement plan A for K-5?
Jim Duffey
01:13:24
Dr Stegall did you say 3 feet of social distancing 6-12?
Ashley Baquero
01:13:44
James K - April 1st
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:13:46
Plan B is 6 feet distancing.
Barbara Cohen
01:14:14
We definitely need the ability to open K-12 fully in-person.
Camela Ford
01:14:16
What is the social distance for K-5? 3 feet?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:14:35
For K-5 -- recommended 6 feet not required.
Joy Warner
01:14:40
Any sense on timing of 324?
macbookair
01:14:51
So the correction should be in place by mid-April?
Shawn Williams
01:15:13
So in Plan A we can have 60 children on the bus now since going to Plan A?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:15:14
@macbookair - it just depends on legislation.
Elizabeth Cole
01:15:33
As planning takes place for next year- in the event virtual learning is required in addition to face to face instruction as an option, hopefully small charter schools will be able to have flexibility and offer only face to face instruction.
Ms. Jones
01:15:37
So we have two campuses (K-5) and (6-8); however, we bus students in mixed grades (K-8) at similar times; therefore, we plan to continue the social distancing protocols (seating arrangement -which is aligned to Plan B) is this acceptable?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:16:15
@Ms Jones - yes, is Plan B students, then yes, must follow Plan B which is one per seat.
David Stegall
01:16:15
Jackie Hughes, we clarified that Plan A is full days
Charlie French
01:16:21
Most leaders I know could fix the challenge we face, and be able to serve the students as well as follow the law if the social distance restrictions are lifted for the bus. Transportation is the biggest issue for us.
CE-Sheri Regan
01:16:24
After spring break is not specific enough. What date would be specifically required for K-5? I am seeing April 12 on the chat, but we had determined an earlier date based on the 21 day guidance.
Jackie T. Hughes
01:16:35
Yes, thank you.
James Kornegay
01:17:07
Ashley B. said April 1st is implementation date
David Stegall
01:17:09
Correct Ms. Jones
Denise Kent
01:17:14
Bills become laws 21 days after signing, my understanding is plan ! K-5 is mandated by SBE so 21 day doesn’t apply.
Ashley Baquero
01:17:26
In addition to the toolkit, please see p. 10 in lighting our way https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z5Mp2XzOOPkBYN4YvROz4YOyNIF2UoWq9EZfrjvN4x8/preview?pru=AAABeFt0ge8*rbjlI_ukuRDqrO9ne_nR7A#
David Stegall
01:17:36
CE-Sheri Regan No later than April 12
Shawn Williams
01:18:16
Contract tracing is still 6 feet - 15 minutes so not fully understanding the 3 feet.
David Stegall
01:18:20
Denise Kent- SBE policy takes place once adopted, which it was
James Kornegay
01:18:47
So David--I'm seeing a lot of dates--can you clarify? Plan A for K-5 needs to be implemented by April 1st?
Denise Kent
01:18:50
@DAvid- 10-4 WE ARE READY TO OPEN K-12 PLAN A.
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:19:29
For 6-12 Plan A - it's up to legislators. You may want to advocate for that need.
Barbara Cohen
01:19:41
How does this affect athletic events for high schools?
angela dawson
01:19:42
Please clarify the date to implement K-5 Plan A
Denise Kent
01:19:57
@Sneha we have been in contact with Barringer, Winslow, etc.
David Stegall
01:20:03
Plan A for K-5 is no later than after spring break
David Stegall
01:20:21
or April 12
James Kornegay
01:20:30
DAvid, do you have the link to what Geoff is presenting here?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:20:48
The link for this is in the LTWF Guiebook.

Ellen Girardi
01:21:46
Can we please have an update about H.B. 324? We are anxiously awaiting it passing!
Bruce Friend
01:21:48
These requirements that describe the difference between Plan A and B are not new. My only question is....when do we anticipate knowing when/if charters can offer Plan A to students in grades 6-12?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:21:50
@Denise - that's great.
David Stegall
01:22:22
Bruce- The General Assembly is aware of the request for change, but we don’t know their timeline.
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:22:24
@Bruce -- Just depends on legislators. As Supt Truitt shared, there is a bill being worked on.
David Stegall
01:22:42
Superintendent Truitt shared that a legislator has agreed to champion this change

We do not want to have to offer virtual learning next year. When will we receive guidance on this? Parents are asking since enrollment in virtual charters may close before a decision is made.
Kelly.Painter
01:25:21
Do we know anything about required summer learning?
Sharon Castelli
01:25:43
We are hosting an outdoor event and have offered two times to allow for social distancing.
Jonathan Bryant
01:25:54
Last year we received summer camp guidance in May (I believe). Is there a sense of when we should expect to receive DHHS and/or DPI details specific to summer camps/activities?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:25:57
@Sharon - what a GREAT way to make this work!
Barry.Ross
01:27:40
please clarify, if 6-12 passes, plan C students Shall return or May return?
David Stegall
01:28:08
Barry Ross- Plan C is not an option for any grades
Natalie Oransky
01:28:46
But we have to offer a remote option for those who choose it.
James Kornegay
01:28:56
If I heard from Ms. Truitt correctly, we have to report to her office if we have parents who are requesting virtual instruction for the remainder of the year?
Bruce Friend
01:29:00
So if I want to hold a NJHS induction ceremony, I can do so in my gym as long as it does not exceed 30% capacity?

In respect to attendance we had 1R for those that were virtual - and if they turned in work they were also given credit. With us going to Plan A and if the parents did not elect to stay virtual, will we go back to regular attendance codes.,
Amanda Pabian
01:38:17
Are there requirements for individuals who have traveled out of the country for quarantining?
Denise Kent
01:38:27
Is this still only applicable for 3 months out after full vaccination?
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:38:31
@Shawn - you'd use present on-site for Plan A.
Susan Mertz
01:39:10
Is quarantine required if symptoms are from the vaccination?
Shawn Williams
01:39:32
@Sneha Shah-Coltrane my question is more about students that are absent that didn't elect to go virtual, are they now absent and can't be considered 1R.
Barry.Ross
01:40:17
if fully vaccinated, is masking still required.
Shawn Williams
01:40:44
A person that is vaccinated can still get COVID and if they test positive do we then follow protocol?

Amanda Pabian

Jim Duffey
01:43:03
Just want to make sure I understand fully; #324 WILL allow 6-12 to move to plan A and make social distancing recommended, not required
Sneha Shah-Coltrane
01:43:42
@Shawn -- that really depends on how you will engage the student …. since virtual is still an option - will you permit that student assigned to in person to then move to virtual - really depends on what you think your virtual option can handle... local decision on how things will work there.
Jim Duffey
