My daughter is excited about Folklore and Mythology :)
Good evening, everyone and welcome!
Is it self-paced or does the virtual school set the pace of progress?
Hi, is this just for 6-12 grades?
@Sharon, we only have course options for 6-12 grade at this time.
@Devin, the content is asynchronous, but includes weekly due dates and an interactive teacher engaging with students regularly.
I saw a course (e.g. English 1) offered year-long and half-year. Is the half-year course basically the same as year-long but condensed?
@Kale, the course content is the same, only the pacing is different.
@Kale - yes
does the student need to log in at a center time/schedule for their class
Semester block is 18 weeks, about 1.5 hrs a day. YL is 36 weeks and about 45/50 minutes per day.
Seabrina, the students do not have to log in at a specific time.
we can't see her
@Alicia, she is not sharing her video.
how does SAT ACT and finals work?
EOC, CTE, and AP exams are coordinated and administered at the enrolling public school. Some courses will have teacher made exams or projects.
The teacher made exams and projects are a part of the regular course and do not require and special administration.
@Devin - remember our students are connected to a traditional school so the testing is managed by the students local school
Roxana Diaz Zelaya
Is there an Honors Spanish III class that isn’t year long?
@Roxana, we offer H Spanish II as a block course as well as year long.
H Spanish III
How do we know which traditional school is a student connected to?
@S Collam- the school enrolls the students
Roxana Diaz Zelaya
Can we work ahead in a course if we want?
@Roxana, most teachers allow students to work one or two modules ahead as need arises.
Our child is a rising freshman. So will she be connected to her traditional home high school?
How many live sessions do we have to take?
@S Collam, if your child is a public school student, the enrollments for our courses must come through their public school.
@Ellen, only our world language and art departments have required live classes and there are many options available for those.
Her course enrollments went from the public middle school that she was in
Does NCVirtual offer EOG testing at the end of the year?
So is she connnected to the Middle school that she graduated out of
Do HS Students need to assist to lab classes at school or can they be done virtually as well
Her course enrollments went from the public middle school that she was in. So is she connnected to the Middle school that she graduated out of. Sorry we’re doing this for the first time and hence need some clarity
@Kale-The enrolling school handles EOG testing.
All of these Peer Tutoring Center resources are free to our students.
Here is a link to our Peer Tutoring Center webpage. https://ncvps.org/peer-tutoring-center/
Does this mean that classes don't start or end at a specific time?
@Natasha, our courses have specific start and end time for the semester or year, but not for daily activity.
Our HS finishes and submit grades prior to the new year but the class my daughter is taking (Japanese 2) is scheduled to finish up into our 2nd semester already starting up. Will the NCvirtual teacher meet the scheduled HS EOY exam/ or will we have to wait to take the course exam into the new semester? Are NCVirual teachers notified as to student's grade due for their HS?
@Dawn, yes, the school will communicate these needs to the teacher and they will adapt the course pacing.
@Dawn, if the school requests that, yes, we will do that.
We have a form that schools submit for early course completion. They should be familiar with the process.
@Natasha please see our calendar for start and end dates. Calendarhttps://ncvps.org/calendars/
Home and private school page. https://ncvps.org/home-private-schools/
Does the school have to approve what courses my child wants to take or make changes ie. request change to Honors or AP
When (date, time) will courses be available for students? I guess the first day of school?
Roxana Diaz Zelaya
Is attendance taken somehow each day?
@Janett, yes, if your child is enrolled in a public school.
@Kale classes open at 7 am on the fist day of class.
@Roxana, NCVirtual does not take attendance, but the enrolling school may have requirements.
@Kale students can log into Canvas the Friday before class begins to test out their log in but class will not be available until the first day of class.
Would we use the same access to the Parent portal App we used previous year?
@Roxana Attendance is not taken in the course; however, students should work daily (5 day per week) in the course, as most courses have assignments due daily. The base school may take attendance, if the course is taken from a school lab.
@Dawn, if your child took classes with us last year, the same access will work for you.
when is the first day of class??
Can a special education student enroll in your school?
@Devin, the traditional fall and year long session begins Monday, Aug 23.
How are HS Science labs done, Virtually? Or do they need to attend their school for labs?
when is the frist day of school
@Alicia, the traditional fall and year long session begins Monday, Aug 23.
are the courses on canvas?
Where on day 1 should the student log in and start learning?
@S Collam, our students should log into our courses at ncvps.instructure.com on the first day of the course.
nomoral school start the 25 and we 23 right

What is your website
@S Collam, ncvps.org
Roxana Diaz Zelaya
Do we use the same canvas account for ncvirtual and the enrolling school?
@Roxana, no, the enrolling school may have a different Canvas instance.
Will there be a synchronous class schedule?
Who is the contact and how soon can a meeting be set up for 504 plans?
Will we get an email of our login information for canvas?
I am a student from charolltle meck virtual high school
Ellen, the enrolling school will share the login information. The methods in which it is shared varies by school.
does the student need to create an account on ncvirtual
When will the classes be listed in Canvas and PowerSchool?
Thanks so much!
@Tracy, the course will be available in Canvas on the first day of class.
how will graduation work?
Roxana Diaz Zelaya
So it’s not required to attend live classes for a language class because it will be recorded and posted on Canvas right?
but my 9th grade Orientation is aug 24
@Roxana, the live classes for languages are highly encouraged.
okay thank you
The sessions are archived and a reflection assignment may be completed, but the live classes are wonderful.
From a pedagogical (learning, theoretical) perspective, is NCVirtual similar or same as NC public schools? Or NCVirtual offer a slightly different pedgagical approach?
The login and password provided by my son's private school (Caldwell Academy, Gulford County) today does not work on ncvps's canvas system. Did I understand correctly that no one can log in until this coming Friday (the Friday before the first week of school)?
@Kale, it will depend on the course, but each of our courses are created for multiple learning styles and are based on the NC standard course of study.
Perfect, thank you Crystal!
PE Classes - I’m assuming that is with the enrolling school as well?
THANKS SO MUCH for the great session NCVPS team.
have a pleasant evening.
