I had trouble giving parent access to canvas bc it is only accessible for users with WCPSS email addresses. Can I change this?
Nikki Smalling
38:08
@atabron there is a parent observer process where a student can link their parent with a code
Nikki Smalling
39:34
GCS sent out some information https://www.gcsnc.com/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=55458&dataid=30863&FileName=Observer%20NCVPS.pdf
Geetanjali Soni
39:58
@Nikki that is true…please ask district for guidance about granting parent access
Darlene Schaefer
40:02
@atabron and @nikki smalling, it may also depend on the district’s respective Canvas instance as well.
atabron@wcpss.net
40:47
thanks for that link!
Adam Renfro
42:16
Or use the Canvas Parent App.
Adam Renfro
42:24
Students can give them the pairing code.
Adam Renfro
42:37
Basically gives them observer access.

atabron@wcpss.net
42:48
I tried to but it wouldn't do it bc they didn't have a WCPSS email. That's a good idea to have them just follow along with their students. Luckily, I used it a lot before we transitioned to remote learning
atabron@wcpss.net
43:01
thanks for the app! so helpful!
atabron@wcpss.net
43:35
and a video to familiarize them with features :) this is awesome!

There are free screen capture tools that you can use to capture video

50:21
@Michelle, we listed some in the chat. Do review the conditions of the free account. Most allow videos of 10-15 minutes or less if you use the free version
Geetanjali Soni
51:15
But it is good practice to keep videos short…7 minutes or under, so 10-15 minutes should be good.
Chris Coby

Pages are part of modules
Geetanjali Soni
55:11
A module can contain pages, assignments etc.
Chris Smith
55:39
@Vonia a Canvas module is just like a chapter in a book. The chapter’s main purpose is to use all the contents that fit within that chapter. Modules can contain pages, assignments, discussion forums, and quizzes.
Geetanjali Soni
55:44
You can use a module for a topic, for example
Ayisha Lewis
56:07
Is the grading able to be automatically shared with Powerschool Grade book
Felicia Grady
56:38
Can you use the same quiz more than once?
Ingrid Knopf
57:17
yes the grading can be set up to share with PS
Ayisha Lewis
57:32
Thanks!! I am so new to all of this
Geetanjali Soni
58:03
@Aiysha..start small…it will be a quick learning curve
Chris Smith
58:04
Felicia, you can actually create a question bank in Canvas and then can easily share out the questions in that bank to multiple quizzes but Canvas does not have a good way to duplicate a quiz. You can duplicate pages, assignments, and discussion forums.
Shiela Patterson
58:47
The great thing is that once you create something in Canvas, it is there...done. You can use it again next year. Content can be imported every year.
Ayisha Lewis
58:49
Thanks for the inspiration This was going so fasy
Geetanjali Soni
58:54
Sorry @Ayisha…my daughter spells her name Ayesha :)
Ayisha Lewis
58:55
fast
Felicia Grady
59:00
Thanks
Darlene Schaefer
59:08
@Felicia, to reuse a question bank in different quizzes, go to Quizzes>hover to the right to Manage Question Banks>Add Question Bank. Write questions there, and then you can add question banks to different quizzes
Ayisha Lewis
59:28

01:01:03
How to activate “Attendance” on Canvas? I could not find it on Apps section
Victoria Morrow
01:01:36
For OCS courses, are the modules pre-created/set up?
Darlene Schaefer
01:02:22
@Haidy, do check with your district, but some teachers are using for conferencing include meet.google.com or zoom.us
Ayisha Lewis
01:02:43
we are using a program the school purchased. Is it ok to upload videos sent from the school paid for program
Ayisha Lewis
01:03:27
not a video I created or found on line
Geetanjali Soni
01:04:09
@Ayisha. Please check with the school. Depends on terms of use
Chris Smith
01:04:09
@Alyisha, it depends on the Terms of Service for the school paid program you are using.
Ayisha Lewis
01:04:42
Ok
Darlene Schaefer
01:04:47
@haidy, you can set up the conference tool and share the link and tell your students what times you will be there. You can do this with zoom.us or meet.google.com
Ayisha Lewis
01:04:50
:)
Geetanjali Soni
01:06:33
@qmoore Canvas has some built in capabilities like discussion boards, quiz capabilities, but content has to be uploaded.
Darlene Schaefer
01:12:16
And to circle back to the question about Pages vs. Modules, you can set up Modules based on units or groups of studies and add Pages (for direct instruction resources), Quizzes, Discussions, and Canvas Assignments
Martin

Ingrid Knopf
01:23:03
where is the survey
Chris Smith
01:23:03
If your school/district does not already subscribe to Canvas and you are looking at creating a free Canvas teacher account, you will probably want to coordinate with everyone in your school building to ensure a common platform is being used. Having a combination of different learning management systems within a single school makes it difficult on students and parents
