can you do all of this in google classroom too?
Jeni Day
40:38
@Kellie - in just a bit we will show you the class as a whole and you will be able to see how the information is organized on the page. In general, all of the information is on an "announcement" page which is linked on the Home Page or accessible through the Announcement link on the Canvas Home Page.

Jeni Day
52:47
@Joseph - you can definitely use both a date and a "hook" title to make it easier to reference! My titles include the date, topic, and a question. There are LOTS of ways (of course) and finding what works for you and your students make take a little trial and error. :)

Do you we have to create a TASL for every video we add?
Jeni Day
54:16
@Kristy - For chemistry (which has a lot of math!) I love using Educreation or ShowMe on my tablet. We have a webinar planned for 8/6 on creating videos that will go into more detail and offer tips and strategies on that, too. :)
heidi henry
54:25
My first 5 days are always filled with getting to know them activities! I hadn't even considered doing the same thing online. Thanks for the suggestion!
Jeni Day
55:09
@Lori - TASL is a great way to ensure compliance with copyright and role model digital citizenship best practices for students, but if you create your own video/images you can definitely omit that step. :)
Jeni Day
55:53
@Carey - registration information is sent out a week in advance, so it will be coming your way soon! :) You can also check on the Digital Transitions page for more information the week before the session. :)
Jeni Day
56:25
@Helen - absolutely! It will populate a spreadsheet for the results if you select that option in the settings, even if you forget to do so at the beginning. :)

What is the “click bait” you use for the checklists?
Jeni Day

And elementary teachers can use images instead of text for the checklists. :) For example, you could have a book image and link that to your reading assignment for that day.

Jeni Day
01:02:27
@Gail, I think differentiation will be key and each district will likely have their own policies they have chosen to implement based on grade level, scheduling, and resources. You can certainly build on Canvas in a way that offers flexibility - grouping students differently, for example, and sending specific announcements to JUST your "blended" or JUST your "all virtual" group.
Gail Johns
01:02:55
Thank you.
Lori Arbour
01:03:10
Can you upload google slides so students can answer right on the slides?
Kristy Marslender
01:04:18
A lot of my students stopped participating once it was announced they wouldn't receive a grade.
Jeni Day
01:04:33
@Lori - you can link slides as a forced copy. That will create a copy for that individual student and the student will then be able to add answers. You can also link or embed slides and allow edit rights if you want all students to be able to access, add, and view all responses - but that also means they can accidentally delete the master copy, so if I do it that way I always make a copy per class and keep my original presentation separate. :)

In making course info available to parents, how can you help ensure they aren't doing the work for their students? It's a concern already, but it seems that virtual learning exacerbates that temptation,

Where can I find the Google Tools webinar?
Jeni Day
01:06:49
@Lori - The Google Tools Webinar recording is available on our resources page: https://www.ncvps.org/digital-transition

Does Google Meet work with Canvas?
Philia Leach
01:07:58
how did you add Zoom

01:08:11
What is SCROM?
Laurie Sloan
01:08:35
@Philia that was something NC Virtual Admin add for us.
Lori Arbour
01:09:20
So, just making sure, is WCPSS using Canvas as their overall platform for both the Virtual Academy and the remote learning (in school 1 week, remote learning 2 weeks)?
Jeni Day
01:10:03
@Kellie - yes, it will integrate. That was a new feature Google added in the spring. :)
Joseph Miller
01:10:13
Following along my screen has about half of those settings
Kellie Perkins
01:10:40
Thanjs
Laurie Sloan
01:10:49
@Joseph it will depend on what your district sets up on their end.
Jeni Day
01:11:00
@Lori - I am not sure about WCPSS specifically. I would contact your tech person at school, or media expert. They may have received that information. I know in CMS we are using Canvas for both.
Lori Arbour
01:11:17
Got it ~ Thanks!

Will the trainings on the digital transitions page always be there?
terryshiver
01:12:25
If you have all your resources gathered, how long does it take on average to create a course
Jeni Day
01:12:43
You can integrate EdPuzzle and cK12, for example, and when students complete the work for either it will share the results of that work on the app's teacher page so you can better track progress. For example, I can see which of my students viewed the EdPuzzle video on my EdPuzzle page without students having to log off Canvas and log into EdPuzzle - it makes it much more streamlined.
terryshiver
01:12:44
Or can it be transferred from google classroom
Mz Yavuz
01:12:46
The announcements do not save, correct?
Chandra Manning
01:13:30
@Mz Yavuz announcements stay until you delete them
Inmaculada Hill
01:13:31
Can you embed Google Classroom to Canvas as an extension? I have been using GC for 3 years and I don't want all my courses be wasted since we changed to Canvas this year...
Jeni Day
01:14:08
@Terry - that depends on how many resources you have to add. :) It is relatively fast if you have everything ready off Canvas. It takes me about 1 hour per module in terms of just adding in the directions, setting up the pages/assignments, etc, and not counting any time toward the actual creation of the content.
Kelley Hasapis
01:14:11
This is the most helpful webinar so far. Thank you!
Laurie Sloan
01:14:17
@Mz Yavuz you announcements remain within the course. They are saved there but I also save mine elsewhere so I can use them each year again. I use PBWorks to do that.
Fermin Abarca
01:14:38
very informative webinar. Thanks!
Charles Hall
01:14:52
are post assessments multiple choice
Lori Arbour
01:14:52
Announcements won't be saved though at the end of the course to be referenced or used in future years, correct?
Toni Best
01:15:37
@Lori correct, you should save them elsewhere because they don't transfer from year to year.
Laurie Sloan
01:15:42
@Lori that depends on how your district work. NC Virtual keeps our but there is no guarantee there. So I would save them some place else so you have them, just in case.
Lori Arbour
01:15:44
Thanks!
Jeni Day
01:15:45
@Lori - the announcements stay in that specific course but as long as you can access the course you CAN grab the embed code for an easy copy/paste to a new course OR you can add your announcements to Canvas Commons to grab and add.
Carey Warner
01:16:01
Is there something like Commons in Google Classroom?
7863714893
01:16:06
Do you have resources for math 4
Jeni Day
01:16:10
@Charles - you can set up assessments with many different question types, including multiple choice.

01:17:06
As a math teacher, how do you get free response problems solutions from your students?
Jeni Day
01:17:11

01:19:40
I found that the NCCAT course for Canvas was really helpful in creating courses. They are online and free right now. I literally took their courses as I created my courses during online learning.
