@Kellie, that is just a suggestion by TextExpander to make sure you don't choose a shortcut term you would otherwise type. For example, you wouldn't want the shortcut key "and" because you type that normally and would accidentally be adding in the phrase you chose for "and" every time you typed it. :)
Lydia Oladosu
01:00:20
How do you make the software (word, pdf) you are using understand the textexpander?
Don Perkins
01:00:44
Does it work in Canvas?
Jeni Day
01:01:00
@Laurie, if you could, go back to present mode. :)
Jeni Day
01:01:52
@Lydia and @Don, it works through your device's keyboard/typing code and thus will work any place and any doc, etc you normally type with that device.
Don Perkins

Jeni Day

We have entire departments that share a feedback bank, and we have teachers who like to do their own or use the department feedback bank and then modify individually. :)

Jeni Day
01:05:28
I have a "Notes" file for each module, so as I grade in that module I can pull it up.
Jeanie Peterson
01:05:33
I love this; our PLT can do this together and it holds us accountable to make sure our assessments are actually assessing the EQs

@Jeanie, YES! It is a great way to bring a team together and work on something asynchronously that everyone can immediately apply and continue to make better. :)
Jeni Day
01:07:22
AND, creating feedback like this REALLY helps you monitor an assignment. You start to notice common mistakes in a different way than before as you create feedback to try and directly address WHY the mistake is happening. :)

Love Canvas Rubrics - use them for all assignments :)
Jeni Day
01:12:53
And rubrics in Canvas are visible to students and so they can use it to guide their work as a self-assessment! :)
Laurie Sloan
01:13:13
Kim, rubrics make life easier and save time!
Kim Loudermilk
01:13:45
Yes Laurie, and it helps me even when grading and giving feedback :)
Jeni Day
01:13:48
For those of you who do standards-based and/or skill-based teaching, you can build those and then apply to the assignments you choose without having to re-do it. :)
Jeni Day
01:14:02
You can also use these to set up "mastery paths" in Canvas if you are feeling advanced!
Inmaculada Hill
01:14:04
I am using Canvas this year. Can I upload a Word rubric in Canvas Rubrics, or do I have to start from scratch?
Laurie Sloan
01:14:39
@Kim, Yes, yes and yes!!
Jeni Day
01:14:45
@Immaculada - you cannot import from a different format, unfortunately, but as Dustin said you can copy and paste the components. :)
Inmaculada Hill
01:15:18
Thanks for your feedback, Jeni.
Jeni Day
01:15:39
If you are using a more generic rubric (like I have one for Discussion Forums") you can then search using the title and add to any assignment so you don't have to constantly make new ones. :)
Inmaculada Hill
01:16:14
Good tip!
Jeni Day
01:16:26
You can also easily add in a different Canvas section - you can search Rubrics from any class to which you have access in Canvas. That means if your PLC / ELC has a shared Canvas Sandbox, you can share rubrics easily among the PLC. :)
Kim Loudermilk
01:16:33
@Immaculada - once you create a rubric, you can use in other sections of Canvas, if you have them so it is very useful.
Jeni Day
01:16:59
Absolutely, @Kim! Great note! :)
Lydia Oladosu
01:17:04

Kim Loudermilk

Jeni Day
01:17:15
@Lydia - YES! I do it all the time. :)
Jeni Day

It shows up in SpeedGrader and you just click through. :)
Laurie Sloan
01:17:51
Again, fantastic time saver!
Kim Loudermilk
01:17:57
@Lydia - yes, you can use it in so many ways. Love, love, love it!
Jeni Day
01:17:59
You can also set a rubric to either use to calculate the grade for you OR you can set it to allow you to add in comments but not use for the actual grade.
