I am a Foods teacher, today we had a virtual "cafe". Students brought coffee, cocoa or the beverage of their choice as we researched and discussed foodborne illnesses. "Starbucks" vibes. I played music. We had fun!

Today, I used SEL, Social Emotional Learning with my students to let them know they are BRAVE! Here’s what I posted in Canvas....My students, you are BRAVE! Brave to take on remote learning during a pandemic! Brave to keep up with your work and do all of your assignments! Brave to engage with your peers and your teacher in an online learning environment! Yes, you are BRAVE and I have noticed and I AM PROUD of you! Dare to be BRAVE every day! I wanna see you be BRAVE!Here’s the acronym:Bringing your best to online class each day!Reaching for the stars to always go beyond what is required!Artfully and creatively complete your artwork!Visualize your plan for success and make it happen!Engaging with your classmates and your teacher daily!! (Celebrate your successes!)How BIG is your BRAVE?Then we listened to this:https://youtu.be/Qa2QKIDr7q8

I look forward to learning from this course how to engage older elementary students. I use Zoom and Google Classroom. Since we allow students to not show their faces, it's difficult to know if they actually are attending. As a music teacher, active participation is fundamental. But I realize many students are weary of online learning, and really want to return to class, where they'll be more engaged face-to-face.
Sheri Squire
41:48
nearpod allows you to play a time to climb and student names can be hidden
Sheri Squire
44:40
I use buttons to allow kids to enter my webex meeting by clicking my webex button (no typing!!!)
Dustin Weaver
47:11
@Sheri yes minimize the errors that can occur
Sherri Damon
47:15
Thank you! Until you showed that corner, I hated Google Drawings because, unlike Windows Paint, I couldn't find how to reduce the image size. I appreciate this!
Dustin Weaver

Lea Brown
01:04:00
How do you make it so they can't chat with one another in zoom?
Sherri Damon
01:04:16
I learned quickly, as you said-disable the chat room during class! I wish I could moderate it better, because I could use chat to create quick quizzes, then compile their answers in Google Forms.
Dustin Weaver
01:04:49
@Laurie I believe there are security settings yes
Lea Brown
01:05:40
Thank you
